This past year has been a wonderful experience. I have been reflecting lately on what my first full year as an assistant principal means to me. If I were to focus in on one word, it would be growth.
Growth was the focus on our campus this school year but it was also my personal focus. The word growth is so powerful. I knew going into this position that I had a lot to learn. From things like fire drills to things like instructional leadership, I knew every day would bring a new challenge and another experience.
I think the one thing that I have learned that stands out the most is that as an administrator, I will always be growing and there won't be a point where I know how to do EVERYTHING because there is always something new around the corner. Megan has really helped me to realize this in such a positive way. How can you ever get tired of a job where you will never "just know everything?" Although, I am the type of person that reads handbooks for a hobby just so I feel like I "know" as much as I possibly can, Megan (as my principal and mentor) has shown me that whether you have been an administrator 2 years or 10 years, each day and experience is new and you can't handle every situation exactly the same. Each situation involves looking at the need and heart of the matter.
I feel quite energized and excited about what is to come as an administrator. I love learning, being challenged, and experiencing new things and I have learned that in this job I will have just that and with it, I must possess a growth mindset and an attitude to take on anything!
